As musicians we know how hard it can be to get regular people to listen to our music, and we know it can be impossible to get record labels to listen to it. Most record labels have strict rules against accepting any unsolicited material (your demo).
Many of you, like myself, have probably bought one or more of those books that promise hundreds of places to send your demo submission to. Only to find out 95% of the listings are out of date and most of the record labels have closed or changed their policy regarding demo submissions. You may have also spent as much or even more money sending out CDs, cassettes, and press kits (very expensive) only to have them returned or lost forever. Even searching the web is frustrating because websites can linger for years after a record label has closed, and as I said, most record labels are not willing to accept your demo submission.
Don't just go through the links above, submit your demo, and wait to be signed. Look over the website and see if you are a good fit for the label. Most importantly, be a real person and make contact with everyone you can (label personnel, musicians, EVERYONE). The music business is about who you know as much as anything else!
